This lake was a Bauxite (mineral used to produce aluminium) mine until 1976, when it has been abandoned due to the infiltration of salted water coming from the sea, that has created the lake. It is located in Otranto, a city of the Puglia region, Italy. The typical red color of the ground, as well the strange green color of the water are both due to this mineral.
